Construction of pedestrian footways in Bellville, Uitzicht, Eversdal and Peerless Park West
17 March 2026
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced with the construction of pedestrian footways along several road segments to improve safety and accessibility for residents. The affected streets include Riesling in Bellville, Vatican Street in Uitzicht, Sondal Road and Kendal Road in Eversdal, and Raan Street in Peerless Park West, Kraaifontein. Work will take place between 07:00 and 17:00, Monday to Saturday, and is expected to continue until Wednesday, 29 April 2026, subject to weather conditions and other unforeseen delays.
‘The construction of new pedestrian footways in Bellville, Uitzicht, Eversdal and Peerless Park West involves preparing the road sites, strengthening the ground, installing new edges and kerbs, improving drainage, and finally laying the footpaths.
These upgrades will make it safer and easier for residents to walk in their neighbourhoods and encourage more people to choose active ways of getting around. We thank residents for their patience while this important work is under way as we continue working to keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The pedestrian footways will be constructed along the following road segments:A section of Riesling Street between Kanonberg Boulevard and Pontac Street in Oude Westhof, Bellville
Vatican Street (westbound) between Athens Street and Okavango Road in Uitzicht
Sondal Road and Kendal Road in Eversdal
Raan Street between Frans Conradie Drive and Horak Street in Peerless Park West, Kraaifontein
The City of Cape Town urges pedestrians and all other road users to stay alert while construction of these footways is under way. Motorists are urged to slow down, follow all road signs, watch out for uneven surfaces, and be mindful of construction workers as well as pedestrians that are walking past the construction sites in these areas.
